BILLY BALLENGER BIOGRAPHY

Billy Ballenger is a Christian recording artist, speaker, and co-founder of Break the Grey, whose powerful story of redemption has inspired audiences across North America and beyond. His journey from prison inmate to touring recording artist has made him one of the most compelling voices in Christian music and outreach today.

Raised in Indiana, Billy discovered a love for music at an early age. However, a difficult childhood marked by bullying and poor choices eventually led him down a destructive path of substance abuse, violence, and crime. Married and a father by the age of 18, he found himself spiraling deeper into a lifestyle that culminated in a SWAT raid on his home. Billy and his wife, Jodie, were both sentenced to six years in prison and lost custody of their infant daughter.

Just before reporting to prison, Billy recommitted his life to Jesus Christ. While incarcerated, he immersed himself in Scripture and began rebuilding his life from the inside out. In what he describes as a miracle, both he and Jodie were released early after serving approximately two years and were reunited with their daughter, beginning a journey of restoration that continues to impact thousands today.

What began as a personal testimony soon became a calling. Through music and speaking, Billy started sharing the story of God’s redemption in churches, prisons, schools, festivals, conferences, recovery events, and community gatherings. Since then, he has appeared before live audiences totaling more than 500,000 people throughout North America and beyond.

Billy was selected to perform on the Winter Jam Tour Spectacular, appearing in 32 arenas alongside some of Christian music’s most recognized artists. Throughout his career, he has shared stages with and appeared alongside artists including Big Daddy Weave, For King & Country, Crowder, Jamie MacDonald, Cochren & Company, Austin French, Building 429, NewSong, and many others.

His music has received radio airplay in multiple markets across the United States and features a blend of powerful storytelling, authentic faith, and messages of hope that connect with listeners from all walks of life. Songs such as “Mercy,” “Who God Can Use,” “Leaving the 99,” and “Tree and the Nails” reflect the themes that have defined both his music and his life—redemption, perseverance, grace, and the transformative power of Jesus Christ.

Billy’s story has been featured on The 700 Club, Life Today, 100 Huntley Street, Weathering the Storm with Ryan Stevenson, Home Life Magazine, and numerous other media outlets. Whether performing in a concert venue, speaking at a festival, or sharing in a church service, his mission remains the same: to point people toward the hope, freedom, and restoration found in Jesus Christ.

Today, Billy continues traveling, performing, and speaking throughout North America, while Jodie shares her story of hope and restoration with audiences across the country. Together, they use their testimonies to demonstrate that no life is beyond God’s reach and no circumstance is beyond His ability to redeem. Through music, speaking, and personal testimony, they continue inspiring others to discover that their past does not define their future and that hope can be found even in life’s darkest moments.
